Bangladeshi Plane hijacker shot dead after emergency landing
Passenger and crew evacuated unharmed after Dubai-bounded flight lands in Chittagong. The suspect, who warned he had a pistol, was killed when security forces stormed the plane after the emergency landing in Chittagong.
The suspect is identified by the name ”Mahadi” and described as a 25 years old Bangladeshi man. The 148 passengers and the crew on board the Bangladeshi Biman flight BG147 were rescued unharmed.
The suspect was injured and died shortly after being arrested. Mj. Gen. Matiiur Rahman told reporters. He also said that The hijacker was a Bangladeshi. We found only a pistol from him and nothing else.
All the passengers were evacuated, and the airport was sealed off by the navy, army, and elite police. Air vice marshal Mofid said he kept the hijacker busy on the phone while special forces prepare for the raid.
“The hijacker demanded to speak to Bangladeshi prime minister,” Mofid said. “He claimed he had a pistol, but we are not sure yet whether it is an actual gun or fake.”
The civil aviation chief of the country, Nayeem Hasan, said that the suspect had claimed that he has a bomb aboard the flight. “From the talks and dialogue we have with him, it seems that he is psychologically deranged,” he said.
Another Spokesperson from Bangladeshi Army, Abdullah Ibne Ziad, said that the hijacker had claimed of having a gun and a bomb strapped to his chest.
He also added in media talk that an investigation would be carried out to determine whether security lapses had occurred.
Bangladesh has experienced homegrown extremism in recent years, with Islamist outfits murdering atheists bloggers and progressive activists.
The flight was scheduled to arrive in Dubai on Sunday evening after departing from Dhaka.
The army forces conducted this operation, and the armed man neutralized. The situation at Shah Amanat Internation Airport is very much under control of the Bangladeshi Army.
